The Optimist Covers Artwork from 1934

The Optimist Covers Artwork from 1934

These are two decks of Campbell Soup playing cards printed in 1995. The artwork were used during the 1930’s in an advertisement and as covers for The Optimist, an in-house publication for Campbell Soup Co. These images were done by Jessie Willcox Smith, who know for capturing tender moments of children in her artwork.

These two decks have never been used. Little girl deck is still in plastic. The plastic on little boy deck cracked and came off.

Nouvelle Plastic Coated Playing Cards

Double deck girl with bubbles and boy with dandelions

This is a Nouvelle double deck. The kitsch artwork, as best I can find, is circa the 1950s. I do not know if that is when this particular deck was printed, though.

Both decks are in their original seal and in mint condition. The box has normal wear on the corners.

KEM Plastic Playing Cards

Kem cards in original packaging.

This KEM red and blue, paisley double deck is pristine, other than some edge wear and discoloring on the outer cardboard cover. Picked up at a yard sale in Eugene, Oregon, this set was printed in June 1961. The case includes two decks of cards, registration card, a help/how-to booklet, a card to order missing/lost/damaged cards, and the “inspected by” card. The cards and accessories are not damaged or warped in any way. This design is still be printed by KEM.
